Rap has always been a very diverse genre. Originating from funk and jazz roots from the Bronx in the 1970's rap has extended into almost every other musical genre.

Rico Nasty

A ton of newer rappers have been rapping in a punk rock style. Take female rapper Rico Nasty as an example, she's stated before in interviews that she loved punk music and style so she's incorporated them into her rapping.

Producers have also been putting classical type melodies and beats with more piano and church choir vocals. Producer Jahaan Sweet made the song "Drowning" by A Boogie Wit a Hoodie, which blew up in 2018. He says in this video that the piano was inspired by Bach's sound in his compositions.

Lil Nas X

And how could we forget, one of the biggest songs of 2019, Old Town Road by Lil Nas X has introduced a new genre that a lot of people are describing as 'country trap'. Lil Nas X also managed to get a feature from Billy Ray Cyrus, which made the song go even more viral than it already is. The song later came out with another remix that had EDM artist Diplo featured.

Many rappers have also collaborated with DJs that make EDM (electronic dance music). Most of the time they're remixes that are release after the original rap song. But recently, rapper A$AP Ferg released a song with an EDM artist, NGHTMRE.

And the two most obvious examples, rap is often seen in R&B and Pop music. Usually just a verse or two in the middle of song, but the possibilities are unlimited when it comes to rap,
