The crack cocaine epidemic in South Central LA had the streets more dangerous than ever. Hundreds of cops on the streets just trying to contain the gangs fighting over selling territory, as this drug could make thousands and thousands if sold right. The birth of the rap group N.W.A. (Ni**as wit Attitudez) began from the members Arabian Prince, Dr. Dre, and DJ Yella wanting to make a record documenting the horrific everyday life in South Central LA. They had then recruited gangster Eazy-E, lyricist Ice Cube, and MC Ren.
Their first hit single "Boyz-N-The-Hood" was released in 1987 and Ice Cube described it as "6 'n the Mornin' part two" and "[his] version of everyday life in South Central LA". This was their unique sound, raw and real, straight from Eazy-E who was a gangbanger himself. This record was the beginning of a whole new genre, which was going to be extremely controversial in the media, gangsta rap.
